The Invest-A-Flex® Approach
Malcolm Ross, B.Comm.

Invest-A-Flex® is an innovative wealth management approach which can produce a 20% to 40% increase in disposable income and up to a 100% increase in the distributable estate.

For most Canadians, taxes are the largest ongoing expense that they face. They are therefore the obvious place to target for savings. In a previous edition of The Fraser Report, we introduced the concept of financial metamorphosis. This is a process of asset allocation which recognizes the implications of taxation on different forms of investment and/or sources of income.

This concept has been developed into a system specifically designed to help people to manage their wealth. The management process has four distinct stages: modelling/planning, organizing, implementing, and review/control. This implies an understanding by the manager of the resources he or she is trying to manage. Unfortunately, in today's complex financial marketplace, few people truly understand the products available or the tax implications of including them in an investment portfolio. We believe that education and communication are an integral part of the management process; the above diagram shows how they become central to tying the whole wealth management process together.

In working with a broad spectrum of clients, we have come to see that while each set of circumstances is unique, the process of education, modelling, organizing, implementing and reviewing is the same.

It is with this common thread that Invest-A-Flex® was designed; Invest-A-Flex® is a systematic approach towards personalized wealth management. It integrates income and estate planning within a single environment, by considering protection, accumulation and retirement objectives. It focuses on the impact of taxation and uses after-tax disposable income and distributable estate as benchmarks. Using the tax classification of assets tax-afflicted, tax-deferred, tax-preferred, and tax-exempt we structure a personal strategic asset allocation model that reflects your objectives.

Through education and communication, your financial affairs are organized and the model is then implemented. Review and control are achieved through statement reporting and annual meetings which consider personal, economic and political changes.

Invest-A-Flex® will provide you with a structured approach to wealth management. Its goals match your goals: to reduce taxes, increase disposable income, improve the distributable estate, minimize risk and maximize guarantees, maintain a suitable level of liquidity, simplify administration, and reduce costs.
